Beauty and the Beast School shows October 2007
We would love to visit you this year with Beauty and the Beast ... our original show and usually the show we offer to schools first, as it's a great introduction to the genre. So we reserve special places for new schools in this tour, and we have about 10 places left for this year.
The story is just lovely. It brings to life the classic fairytale, so you can use it for a unit on fairytales, with everything you would expect including sword fights and the dramatic transformation of the Beast...but you can also use it for many other areas of the curriculum, like literacy, theatre and values; as well as just giving your students an incredibly intense and rock-concert show that will create happiness and enthusiasm!
Like all Alpha shows, there are subtle values themes and follow up work that provide powerful subconscious messages and metaphors to positively influence your students.
You can either call us directly, check out the website, or if you prefer, contact Robyn at Nexus Arts who is currently helping new schools discover the Alpha difference. The Alpha team is also able to help you, so you can call 1300 850 658 if you have questions you want answered about the show or when we're available.
We're also going up to NSW and Sydney and have a couple of places left for late Nov/early December as well.

New Alpha Auditorium!
Finally, Alpha has it's own space to rehearse and create new shows!
Alpha is based in Langwarrin, onsite alongside the WhiteChapel Reception Centre. We have finally built our new 15x18m shed, 6 metres high... and have fitted it out with a stage and room for storage and building/painting sets, storing our costumes etc. It's AWESOME!
We rehearsed Hercules in there, which made it a lot easier. We held our dress rehearsal in there on Sunday for about 50 children and grown ups, which was a great way to kick off our tour. Feel free to come and visit!
Laura, our creative director, will be creating an Alpha Drama School in 2008, holding classes in our new venue which will eventually be fitted out as a full theatre and drama venue. If you're interested email her directly [email protected]

2008!
As 2007 is rolling on, we're already starting to sell out 2008!
As we finish off each tour, the majority of the places we just visited have also booked for their next Alpha Show as we generally are invited back year after year to most places we go. That means we sell out about a year in advance. And as we keep adding new shows every year, this means there is less and less time for each invidual tour.
So we encourage you to book for 2008 now. Check below for the touring schedule to help you with what show you might like.
You know, us here at Alpha are extremely passionate about positive theatrical and developmental experiences for children. We only want to go where people want us, and so we send out these newsletters as a way to remind people if this is the case. We hope in 2008 to get enough interest so we can extend tours to the point that we can have more than 1 show on the road at once. This would mean getting a new van, and a whole bunch of new equipment and actors, to enable us to reach more children and communities. We can only hope you can get a sense of our passion for what we do and that you can also join us in our mission!
We just love creating theatre for young people - it is our sole focus. Ben and Laura, along with the actors and the couple of extra people in the creative team (Phil, our production exec and set painter, and Jodie, our amazing costume designer) really form this thing called 'Alpha Shows' and most of our energy and focus goes towards creating great experiences for anyone who wants to invite us. If you've had us before but not booked again or never had us, we really look forward to seeing you very very soon!
These newsletters, as we get busier, are few and far between! As you might have noticed, this newsletter started as the May one but we're so busy we never finished it until this week in June! Oh well, it can still be called the 'May' edition!
Because of our increased workload however, sometimes we may not remember everything and get as much information out to you, so please, if you ever need information, always feel free to email us at [email protected]...we'd love to hear from you. And there's always the Alpha Forums too!
Kind regards,
The Alpha Show Team
